After a 5 years experience in Backend focused Software Engineering, I feel like I'm ready to explore more about the industry and potentially pivot into another field where I can use my existing skills to gather new ones. First, I thought about becoming Full-Stack.
But after some months spent in Vue.js environment (I don't know why but I like Vue more than React), I decided it's not going to work for me due to some simple reasons:
I hate CSS
And I'm tired of denying it. I have the visual intelligence of a 5 years old and combine it my OCD and color-blindness, it's not going to work.
That didn't stop me from learning the basic concepts, like studying Vue.js just enough to be able to create my own blog (I flipped this one because I needed to start blogging ASAP).
I need a different perspective
The cycle of writing features is good, but I'm getting too comfy with it. So I need a brand new window to approach my favorite thing in the world called programming.
And Security, by core includes both constructive and (controlled) destructive approaches to the systems.
Security is on the rise, thanks to Vibe Coding
I never had the anxiety of AI taking my job away from me, since all it can take from me was CRUD - which I gladly hand over because I'm more into the Architecture side of the Backend, after 5 years of experience.
But with the new tend of Vibe coding, I'm sensing lots of vulnerabilities will be created and (like all other vulns) threat actors will be looking for them.
That's why I decided to shift my focus into Security and will start exploring the other side of the window for a while.
My expectations for this journey:
- Gaing secure coding habits.
- Learn a bit more about underlying structures (OSI)
- Getting a new title? Maybe?
- Blogging more. Because tunnel vision makes me forget things as I do other regular stuff (like CRUD).
- Some certs (I don't prioritize those because chasing CVE's will be harder and more fun)
Will see how it works out.
Cheers.
